Causes of Bad Breath
Bad breath is a very common problem and potentially embarrassing problem which has many different causes. Some people find that they have bad breath all the time and there may be an underlying medical cause for that, such as throat, nose or lung infections and sinusitis, bronchitis or diabetes.
You can also suffer from bad breath if you have poor dental hygiene. Without regular brushing and flossing, bacteria and bits of food can get trapped in between your teeth, which will release an unpleasant odour after some time. Smoking can also lead to bad breath. Unfortunately, the problem can be another caused or made much worse by strong foods like garlic, onions and coffee, as well as spicy meals. How To Prevent Bad Breath
Bad breath can be prevented by following a daily oral hygiene regime and cutting down on sugary and spicy foods and drinks. As well as doing your teeth and gums, clean your tongue daily, ideally with a special tongue cleaner, and floss or use interdental brushes at least once a day. If you wear dentures, keep these clean, too, and remember to take them out at night. It’s also worth trying an antibacterial mouthwash after brushing.
Regular trips to the hygienist and frequent dental check-ups will also ensure your plaque levels are kept under control, which will also help keep your breath fresh.
